Blood Health
The "Blood Health" test package is a detailed blood analysis designed to evaluate various components and characteristics of your blood, which can give a broad picture of your overall health. It can identify a range of conditions, from anaemia and infection to haemoglobinopathies and disorders of iron metabolism. This package combines a full blood count with iron studies to assess the health and function of your blood.
Full Blood Count (FBC)
MPV (Mean Platelet Volume): This measures the size of platelets, cells that help with blood clotting. Abnormal MPV can indicate various disorders, including thrombocytopenia or thrombocythemia.
WBC Count (White Blood Cell Count): Indicates the number of white blood cells, which are crucial for fighting infection. Abnormal levels can suggest an infection, inflammation, or haematological conditions.
Differential White Blood Cell Count (Lymphocyte, Monocyte, Neutrophil, Eosinophil, Basophil): These tests provide the percentage of each type of white blood cell, offering clues about your immune system's health and response to various conditions.
RBC (Red Blood Cell Count), Haemoglobin, Haematocrit (HCT): These indicate the number, concentration, and oxygen-carrying capacity of red blood cells, and are key in diagnosing anaemia and other red blood cell disorders.
Indices (MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW): Mean Corpuscular Volume, Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin, and Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin Concentration give further detail on red blood cell size and haemoglobin content. Red Cell Distribution Width shows the variation in red blood cell size, which can help diagnose specific types of anaemia.
Platelet Count: A count of the cells that help the blood to clot. Too few can lead to excessive bleeding, while too many can cause clotting problems.
Iron Studies
Iron: This test measures the amount of iron in your blood, indicating how well iron is being transported to various parts of the body.
Ferritin: A protein that stores iron in your cells, with levels indicating the amount of stored iron available. Low levels can suggest iron-deficiency anaemia.
TIBC (Total Iron-Binding Capacity): Measures the blood's capacity to bind iron with transferrin (the primary iron-transport protein), which can help diagnose iron disorders, including iron deficiency anaemia and haemochromatosis.
By reviewing the results of these tests, healthcare providers can gain insights into your health, diagnose various conditions, and monitor ongoing issues. It's important to consult with a healthcare professional to understand the implications of your test results, which must be interpreted in the context of your overall health and any symptoms you may have. Regular monitoring of these values can be an integral part of maintaining your health and well-being.
